Full-time Teacher

Trust Children's Center is a high quality, children's center born out of the belief in work-life balance and the importance of our children. Trust Children's Center's curriculum incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) and the philosophies of the Outdoor Classroom into natural children's play. The Trust Children's Center is a self-run, day care center sponsored by Trust Automation. Employees of the Trust Children's Center are employed by Trust Automation, a fast growing company in San Luis Obispo which designs, builds and supports control and power management systems.

We are seeking a Full-time Teacher to join our team in San Luis Obispo, CA caring and educating children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. We are looking for a team player who is energetic, motivated by team success and able to adapt to new processes and procedures quickly while providing high quality care to children. You must have a passion for educating children, while being adaptable as you work within a team teacher environment.

What You Will Do:

Besides playing an integral part to children's growth and development, you will perform the following duties under general supervision of the Program Director:

  • Assume responsibility for planning and implementing a quality program for young children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years old
  • Ensure all children are accounted for and safe at all times
  • Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and needs, determine their goals for their children, and suggest ways that they can promote learning and development.
  • Utilize digital photography, computers and word processing to create children's portfolios.
  • Communicate with co-workers, children and families in a positive, constructive manner both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary classroom and outdoor area.
  • Plan field trips, lessons and special activities.
  • Manage time effectively.
  • Follow the philosophies of The Outdoor Classroom Project and Reggio based learning
  • Set up classroom environments following ITERS/ECERS; with monthly room changes to areas such as literacy area, bulletin board themes/art, dramatic play, manipulatives, etc.
  • Attend an evening staff meeting and/or training once per month.

What You Need For This Position:

  • 24 college units of Child Development/Early Childhood Studies, including a minimum of 3 units of Infant/Toddler Studies
  • CPR/First Aid certification (including fifteen hours of Health and Safety Training)
  • Current Mandated Reporter Training certificate
  • Experience working in a licensed child care program
  • Knowledge of DRDP (Desired Results for Children and Families) preferred
  • Experience with Outdoor Classroom Project preferred
  • Ability to work as a team with other teachers in a multi-age setting with a willingness to be adaptable
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Applied knowledge of computer software including Word, Outlook, digital photography and Excel for email, documentation and child portfolios.
  • LiveScan fingerprinting/background check, TB and physical health clearance upon hire

Physical Demands:

  • Must be physically fit enough to regularly lift up to 50 pounds unassisted for duties such as carrying children and equipment. Must be able and comfortable with kneeling, bending, crawling and working in both and inside and outside environment.
